I flew solo on the Bethesda E3 Event, so I’m only speaking for myself in this article.
Things kicked off with an incredibly unexpected reveal of a new Quake game. I’ve had several people tell me Quake is going to happen and my response was “Never!” Even with all of the rumours I still didn’t think Quake would happen.
It’s a PC only game, which is kinda disappointing but Quake needs to be a PC only game so the developers were wise not to sacrifice the gameplay of the PC version to support gamepads.
I’m going to skip over stuff I don’t have anything to real speak on, just know that I thought the Fallout 4 DLC shown at the event looked great but because of how disappointing the current DLC was, I’m going to have to wait before I can get excited for the new stuff.
I’ve been skeptical of a Skyrim Remaster, I’m not convinced that it’s something worth buying but god damn it as soon as the music started playing and we saw the new visuals. It hooked me. I think that just shows the power good games can have over us.
New visuals look awesome and I’m excited about MOD support, especially with it going packaged with all of the DLC because I missed the DLC and I needs me some vampires.
Then we have an incredibly disappointing Prey 2 slash reboot trailer. The only reason people are excited for this is because Prey 2 has been in development limbo, the first Prey game was great but nobody asked for Prey 2. Don’t get me wrong, what we have here is interesting but it’s not whatever Prey 2 was and it’s certainly not a remake of Prey 1. It just feels to me like they’re cashing in on hype for another game.
We end on Dishonored and it looked awesome but my god, you can’t end a press conference on a stealth game. There’s no crunch to get excited for in a stealth game like Dishonored. You gotta end on hype, Dishonored is the perfect opening game but not the ending.
Like I said what we saw was awesome, the new environments are different enough from the first game yet familiar enough to be set in the same universe, the new powers look like tons of fun which is important for games like Dishonored and the time travel part was amazing and gave me serious Prince of Persia flashbacks.
Dishonored looks like a perfect sequel but it’s not a crunch game.
